Gold Coast Regional Beekeepers Inc
The Gold Coast Regional Beekeepers Inc (GCRB) is an active group of local Gold Coast Beekeepers with the aim of further knowledge in beekeeping by assisted learning and practical experience. Much of this done in the club’s teaching apiary of five hives, where members and visitors are encouraged to be involved in the hive inspections to improve their beekeeping skills and knowledge.
Located at the Veterans Support Group Men’s Shed in Nerang, our club meets on the third Saturday of each month starting at 8:30 am with hands-on inspections of the club’s hives, which is usually followed by a presentation in the lunch room on a topic related to beekeeping.
All of the honey produced by our hives is donated to the Veterans Men’s Shed to assist with their fundraising objectives.
We also hold beekeeping teaching opportunities at other times where members can participate in small groups on various aspects of beekeeping like honey extraction, and disease inspections of the hives.
As a not for profit club we also aspire to educate the community about the value of Australian native bees and the European honeybee, on their importance in pollinating crops which are essential for the agricultural food chain of Australia and the world in general. Without bees the world's food supply would ultimately fail in a few short years. Our community education programme includes a programme called Hives Helping Heroes, talks to various community groups, and local market stalls to promote beekeeping and the value of bees.
